Coaching Parents Through Conflict

Reducing Escalation, Strengthening Parenting Plans, and Keeping Children at the Center

Parents often worry about how divorce will affect their children. Ongoing parental conflict can make that adjustment even harder. This professional development course helps divorce coaches deepen their work with individual parents—building skills to reduce escalation, navigate parenting decisions, and keep children’s needs at the center, even when the other parent is not participating.

A parenting plan can establish a schedule. It cannot, by itself, change the conflict parents bring to it.

When unresolved hurt, fear, and entrenched positions drive parenting decisions, even routine exchanges can become recurring disputes. Divorce coaches have an opportunity to work with individual parents before these patterns become established—and to help clients reconsider patterns that are already keeping them stuck.

This six-week live professional development course from Divorce Coaches Academy® explores how coaches can help clients navigate parental conflict, prepare for parenting-plan decisions, and manage the ongoing challenges of parenting after divorce. Drawing on Tracy Callahan’s experience in divorce coaching, mediation, and parenting coordination, the course connects an understanding of conflict dynamics with practical application.

Through case examples, discussion, and applied exercises, participants will explore how to:

  • Recognize escalation patterns, parenting triggers, and the impact of parental conflict on children.

  • Help clients examine entrenched positions and move toward child-centered decisions.

  • Explore parenting-plan details that can become sources of conflict, including transitions, holidays, communication, information sharing, and decision-making.

  • Prepare clients to discuss their priorities and practical concerns with attorneys and mediators.

  • Support clearer communication, effective boundaries, and more deliberate responses to ongoing disagreements.

  • Identify meaningful changes an individual parent can make, even when the other parent is not participating.

Designed for divorce coaches and related family dispute resolution professionals, this course emphasizes the coach’s role in helping parents make thoughtful, practical decisions within their professional scope.

Schedule: Mondays, November 9–December 14, 2026
Time: 1:00–2:30 p.m. Eastern
Format: Six live online classes totaling nine instructional hours

This is a professional development course. It does not confer certification or an additional professional credential. Students who successfully complete the training will receive a certificate of completion and earn 15 CEU's.

Why This Course Matters

Putting children first in ADR requires more than good intentions. Parents need to consider how their decisions will affect their children’s daily lives, beyond the dispute in front of them. Divorce coaches can help individual parents bring that perspective into mediation and parenting-plan discussions—creating an opportunity to prevent future conflict instead of repeatedly responding to it.
